The foremost objective of the department is to hone technical skills demanded by today’s engineering professionals by providing a sound technical platform and the required knowledge base.

  • To coach students to work in teams and provide insight and direction into the atmosphere as might be encountered by professionals in the field.

Applied Thermodynamics Laboratory

The applied thermodynamics lab has a number of models, cut sections and experimental setups to make the students conversant with actual engines and measurement of their performance.

 

Heat Transfer Laboratory
The purpose of this lab is to demonstrate the students about the different heat transfer processes like conduction, convection & radiation with the help of equipments and also to make them understand different heat exchangers, heat pipes practically. It also aims at calculating heat transfer coefficients, thermal conductivity and Stefan’s Boltzmann’s coefficient. This lab is equipped with complete setup for performing the experiments.

 

Strength of Materials Laboratory
The objective of this lab is to provide know-how to evaluate the different mechanical properties of various materials. Advanced facilities like creep testing, fatigue testing, torsion testing, Hardness testing machines are available apart from the basic testing facilities.

 

Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Laboratory
This lab is equipped to perform the experiments including the performance and study of basic components used in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. The equipments include Refrigeration Test Rig, Water Cooler, Simple Vapour Compression System, Domestic Refrigerator, Ice Plant, Vapour Absorption Refrigeration System, Blower Test Rig, Air Conditioner and Cut Sections of different components.

 

Engineering Materials and Metallurgy Laboratory
This lab is equipped to cover the concepts of Heat treatment and their effects on the microstructure and hardness of the metal. Polishing Machine, Metallurgical Microscope, Metal Shearing Machine, Muffle Furnace, Induction Hardness Machine are some of the equipment of the lab.

 

Automobile Engineering Laboratory
This lab improves student’s knowledge about various systems of automobile, like suspension, differential, steering assembly, various types of braking systems, engine internal cut outs etc.

 

Theory of Machines & Vibrations Laboratory
This lab is equipped with various working models to enable the students to understand the theory of machines & vibrations developed and the methods of their measurement.

 

Industrial Automation and Robotics Laboratory
This Lab gives an idea of hydraulics and pneumatics coupled with simulation kits. A complete set up of pneumatic training experimental equipment is available.

 

Fluid Mechanics and Machinery Laboratory
The purpose of this lab is to study the working and constructional features of fluid machinery like turbines, pumps and other hydraulic equipment. This laboratory is well equipped with the experimental setup to perform the experiments on fluid machinery and demonstrate the working of different machines.

 

Mechanical Measurement and Metrology Laboratory
Metrology has a great importance in quality assurance. The aim to establish this laboratory is to provide practical training in the field of various types of standards & measurement. The laboratory has conventional, optical (and laser based) equipments used in metrology. Profile projector, Vernier Height Gauge, Depth gauge, Universal bevel protector, Straight edge and other measuring instruments.

Highlights of Department

    • TEAM NORTHERN BULLS, under the Banner SAE INDIA RIEIT CLUB of MECHANICAL DEPARTMENT, won the OVERALL 1st prize for All-Terrain Vehicle in the Mega ATV Championship-2016 contest, organized by “Auto Sports India” in association with Kalinga Motor Sports Club, at Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The team of nine Mechanical Engineering students namely Harmaninder Singh, Abhinay Kumar Singh, Ashwini Kumar Prince, Atul Gupta, Neeraj Jaryal, Uchinder Singh, Surya Pratap Singh, Satpal, and Shubham Lal was led by faculty member Er Sukhdeep Singh.
    • TEAM NORTHERN BULLS GO KART designed and fabricated GO KART vehicle to compete in National Kart Racing Championship 2016 under the Banner SAE INDIA RIEIT CLUB of MECHANICAL DEPARTMENT, won the Seventh Prize for GO KART in the National Kart Racing Championship 2016 contest, organized by “Virtualis Motorsports India” in association with Mohite Racing Academy, at Kolhapur, Maharashtra. The team of nine Mechanical Engineering students namely Gautam Gupta, Jatin Rana, Amanpreet Singh, Jaspreet Singh, Harmandeep Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Nikhil Bhardwaj, Rohit Kamal,Gurpreet Singh and Rajat was led by faculty members Er Sukhdeep Singh, Er. Vipin Khurana and Mr. Amrit Sherpal Singh.

 

  • TEAM NORTHERN BULLS again designed and fabricated FORMULA GO KART vehicle under the Banner SAE INDIA RIEIT CLUB of MECHANICAL DEPARTMENT, won the FOURTH Prize for GO KART in the Formula Kart Design Challange 2017 contest, organized by “Fraternity of Mechanical and Automotive Engineers. India” in association with MECCO KARTOPIA, at Bangalore, Karnataka. The team of Mechanical Engineering students namely Amandeep Singh, Satpal singh, Shubham lall, Jaskaran Singh, Harish, Arzoo, Amandeep, Baljeet Singh, Amit Ahuja, Nihaal, Pankesh and Joyti Bhushan was led by faculty members Er Sukhdeep Singh Er. Vipin Khurana and Mr. Amrit Sherpal Singh.

MOU with Siemens Industry Software India Pvt. Ltd. & B.Tech ME (Design & Development)

Recognizing the importance of generating skilled manpower and industry ready engineers, Rayat-Bahra Group and SIEMENS Industry Software India Private Limited in collaboration with Polaris Softech Pvt Ltd signed up MOU for setting up of Siemens Certified Professional Learning Center at Rayat-Bahra Ropar Campus.

The Mechanical Engineering Department has now got a new course B.Tech in Mech Engg (Design & Development) which will produce industry ready engineers in future. It is a beginning of new era of Industry-Institute interface in which Rayat-Bahra Group has taken the lead to involve multinational company like Siemens to directly govern the studies of students, their prospective employees.

 

Invited Talks

Seminar on Latest Trends in Mechanical Engineering Design

A seminar on Latest Trends in Designing in the field of Mechanical Engineering was organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering on 12/04/2017. The distinguished speakers were Er. Sandeep Sharma, Technical Head (Design) Aerosphere and Er. Ramandeep Singh Sidhu, Head – HR and Biz Dev operations, Aerosphere.

Er. Sandeep Sharma, an alumni of RIEIT 2007 batch ME visited the Campus to enhance the knowledge and motivate the students for seeking career in direction of designing and modelling. He enlightened the concept and principles of CATIA V5 designing implemented in various sectors these days. He explained the Detailed Design Phase, Platform Migration, Reverse Engineering, Simulation in CFD etc. He also elaborated the product development phases which included conceptual and preliminary design, product manufacturing, product testing and delivery and product support.

The students of 4th and 6th semester Mechanical Engineering benefited a lot from this seminar. They raised a number of queries which were clarified to their utmost satisfaction.

Two days CNC Training Course

Mech Engg Deptt. held a two days CNC Training Course On 20/03/2017 by Er. Gurpreet Singh, Prof. (ME), Baddi University. The faculty and students of Mechanical Engineering Department enhanced their knowledge and skills in the field of CNC technology. Er. Gurpreet Singh trained about CNC turning and facing operations and various applications of different softwares and tooling of CNC.

About 150 Mechanical Engg. students and faculty members participated in this training programme.
